Why artists need support
Art and music give communities a voice, preserve cultural memory, and create spaces for connection. Behind every performance are years of practice and hours of composing, rehearsing, and preparation. Yet creative work does not always provide a steady living. When artists must spend more time covering basic costs, they have less time and space to create.
We believe supporting artists means supporting the cultural life of their communities. Our Arts & Music Grant offers direct support to artists in need in Taiwan, helping them continue their creative work.
The pressures behind the performances
NT$35,718 per month — Estimated average monthly income among respondents to the Taipei Art Creators Union’s 2024 arts-worker survey.
Only 36% — The share of respondents who said they always or usually signed work contracts, highlighting uncertainty around the terms of creative work.
4% pay growth over a decade — TPEC’s analysis of official statistics found that annual pay in creative and performing arts rose just 4% from 2013 to 2023, compared with 24% across services.
About the data: The 2024 survey received 944 responses from arts and cultural workers, not musicians alone; it is not a census. The pay-growth figures mainly cover employees and do not capture freelance income. These are dated findings, not 2026 estimates.
